Pre-Halloween

I don’t know about you, but for me the month of October is just flying. This is why I looked up yesterday morning and realized that we were attending two Halloween/Fall Festival events and didn’t have half of Rosalind’s Raven (Teen Titans) costume ready. Not even ready. We just don’t even have the parts yet.

We were faced with a couple of options. Run into to town and try desperately to find what we needed to finish her costume in the hour or so we had before her soccer game. Buy a different costume out of a bag. Make something work from around the house. Inspiration struck when I remembered that her Christmas gift last year had been two very elaborate period costumes from Chasing Fireflies. The only problem with that was that the one she loves to wear is long and involves hoop skirts and would drag the ground. The other itches. Of course. Our solution was to let her wear what amounted to a full outfit underneath her Duchess dress and off we went. It worked out great. So easy. I think the black sparkle boots set it off so nicely.

First we hit the Pioneer Park Trick or Treat something or other. Pioneer Park is this really strange place that has a bunch of real Fairbanks buildings from the past that they have moved into a main street area. It also has a little train, a putt putt golf course, a carousel, and a few playgrounds. It’s quite neat, and normally free. The Trick or Treat part was good, but I was a little disappointed that the rest of the park was closed down. No food options. Closed playgrounds. The carousel is dismantled for the winter. Not to mention that despite the fact that we have no snow (yay!), it was still cold enough to make me lose feeling in my feet.

Then we went to Rosalind’s school festival. More candy, some games, and after six and a half years Rolo finally decided that hot dogs might not be the devil’s handiwork.

Now to get her real costume finished up and figure out where in the world we are supposed to trick or treat on actual Halloween.
