A Satisfying Development

Here are some pictures of Rolo looking adorable on our rainy walk to school this morning.

And here are some pictures of us on the way home from school.

That’s right! We bought a car. Sergio just went off and got one today. It’s not perfect by any means, and yes, we bought it dirty inside and out, but that’s pretty much the only way here in Bethel. You guys! I just can’t tell you how freeing it feels to have a car. It’s not going to take me two hours to go to a one hour Zumba class anymore. If Rosalind lags for ten extra minutes in the morning we will still make it to school and work on time. I can choose which grocery store I want to shop at! I can go to the post office at any point in my day! What am I going to do with all this extra time!!!
We had been halfheartedly looking for a bit but the steady rainfall got us moving a little faster. Not to mention the fact that even though it is still light out until after ten pm, our morning walk to school starts in the dark.
Despite being totally thrilled I was really nervous to drive here. I have only driven once in the last three months and the roads here are mostly dirt with potholes. Speaking of, an administrator pointed out to me recently that most kids here don’t really understand the concept of a curb. Because there aren’t any. I also realized this week that there is some misunderstanding among the little kids as to what a squirrel looks like. Because there aren’t any. I haven’t seen a squirrel in almost three months. How strange.
But we have a truck and things are feeling mighty luxurious all the sudden.

  1. I am so relieved to know that you have a means of transportation since the weather is going to get colder. I know the walking part is good but not sure how well you and Rolo would do in the really cold weather.
